About Us
The Henry County Youth Center, located in New Castle, Indiana,
is a fifty (50) bed facility which opened
in 1992, and is administered by the Henry County Circuit and
Superior Court. The Youth Center provides thirty (30) secure,
ten (10) staff-secure/shelter and ten (10) staff-secure residential treatment
beds. The secure and staff secure/shelter beds serve multiple
courts/counties in Indiana.
In February, 2004 the Circuit and Superior
Court redirected the Mission of the Henry County Youth Center
by opening a ten (10) bed residential treatment unit in honor
of John and Nancy Kellam. The Hon. John Kellam (ret.) served on the
Henry County Circuit Court for more than 20 years. The Kellam's
are deeply committed to at-risk youth and family,
and through their leadership and tireless efforts the Henry
County Youth Center has evolved into a highly respected local
and regional program with a tradition of making a meaningful
difference in the lives of those requiring the supervision
of the Court's.
Under the leadership of the Henry County Circuit
and Superior Court the Youth Center has developed important
collaborative relationships with the New Castle Family Physicians and Adams Counseling & Assessment.
These collaborations have served to ensure quality education,
mental health and health care services for all residents of
the Youth Center.
The Court and the Youth Center leadership are
particularly proud of the investment made by community leaders.
In addition to the many community stakeholders and leaders
that serve on the Henry County Advisory Board, the Youth Center
has more than one hundred (100) volunteers who give of their
time and talents to make a meaningful difference in the lives
of all residents of the Youth Center.
The Henry County Youth Center is licensed by
the Indiana Department of Correction and the Indiana Department
of Family and Children. All Youth Center programs and services
strive to meet nationally recognized standards of practice,
embrace strategies that are cost effective, and ensure the
safety and promote the positive growth of all those that are
served.
